Ebdou Ismael Abod, a 29 year old Syrian man resident in Malta, was found dead in his car down a deep cliff at Selmun, limits of Mellieha.

Police believe the man was repeatedly beaten in his head with a mallet, before he was pushed into his own van, and pushed over the cliff side, in an area known as Ghajn Hadid. The victim was found on Monday morning, at around 1100hrs, when a person phoned police informing them that there was a dead man inside a van in Selmun.

The man is married in Malta and has been living on the island for the last six years, where he worked as a plasterer. Police said that the man had no previous criminal records, and was not reported missing. He was last seen on Sunday evening.

Police sources told ONE News that investigators found a mallet smeared with blood not far away from the scene of the crime.

This is the second murder in Malta for 2007. Police investigations and a magisterial inquiry are underway.
